Hi, I'm Jo Perkins. I'm a sports medicine physiotherapist specialising in female health and performance.
I am a highly qualified physiotherapist and graduated with 1st Class honours in BSc Physiotherapy in 2005. I went on to complete an MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine as well as various sports yoga and pilates qualifications, specialising in more recent years in women's health, including ante and post natal Pilates and physiotherapy techniques, pelvic health training and female athlete support (see qualifications).

From 2010-2018, I worked as a specialist rehabilitation Physiotherapist for professional rugby union side, the Scarlets. I found that combining my Physiotherapy and Pilates methods led to superior results in terms of injury prevention, rehabilitation and overall wellbeing of players and I was lucky enough to be part of the league winning side in 2017 and European semi finalists in 2018.
I am incredibly lucky to have two gorgeous children; Sienna (9lb 7oz) in 2015 and Rory (10lb 11oz) in June 2018. Having pretty big bubbas and their births certainly took a toll on my body. After an assisted first birth, I was really shocked at how I felt post natally, not only in terms of some of the symptoms I experienced but more so that the routine rehabilitation processes that I applied to every other injury in sport just seemed to not exist for women post natally.
This sparked a real passion for women's health, and through further training combined with my sports medicine background, I developed my own rehabilitation strategies, which allowed me to get back into running and complete a marathon without symptoms that had once plagued me. I went on to have my son in 2018 and had an entirely different pre and postnatal experience by using my rehabilitation strategies.
I am now head of Medical for the Welsh Women's National Rugby team and have further trained in all aspects of female health allowing me to support females with performance strategies including menstrual cycle management, breast and pelvic health, ACL injury prevention and management to name just a few.
I have also written for Trail Running, womens health and womens' running magazines as well as being involved in various female specific research projects, most recently writing the World Rugby Postpartum guidelines.
